OCR recognizes words from page images

A scanned PDF may show readable words while containing no selectable text. OCR attempts to recognize those words from rendered pixels. PDF Master Pro offers Text File and Searchable PDF outputs. Text output is useful for copying and editing in another application; searchable PDF keeps the visible page with a recognized text layer.

The recognition engine includes English, Hindi, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Arabic, Indonesian, Japanese and Korean models. Select the language that is actually in the document. A selected non-English model is combined with English for common mixed-language documents. Recognition is performed in the browser with locally served engine/model assets.

Use a good sample

Start with a clear page containing ordinary body text and a few important details. A faint photograph, a skewed scan or handwriting is harder to recognize than a clean typed page. This tool does not promise automatic deskew, handwriting transcription or perfect reconstruction of every table.

Try selecting and copying text before running OCR. If a correct text layer already exists, PDF to Text can avoid unnecessary recognition. For an editing requirement, PDF to Word creates actual DOCX text and offers its own OCR language selector.

Run recognition and inspect the output

  1. Select a small representative PDF.
  2. Confirm the document-language selector, independently of the website interface language.
  3. Choose the required output format and start OCR.
  4. Keep the tab open while it processes each page.
  5. Compare the downloaded result with the visible source in another application.

For a synthetic reference INV-2026-0018, compare every character. A recognizer might confuse the final 8 with B or interpret a hyphen as a space. Check a name, a date and a number as well as a normal paragraph. A result that looks fluent can still contain an important numerical error.

Reading order and tables need separate review

OCR can identify the words in two columns but return them in an inconvenient sequence. A recognized table is not automatically a correctly structured spreadsheet. If you need editable rows and columns, review and organize the recognized text deliberately; do not assume that a searchable-PDF download reconstructs an Excel workbook.

Searchable text alone also does not establish accessibility compliance. Headings, alternate text, reading order and table relationships may require dedicated remediation. The searchable versus accessible PDF guide explains those limits.

First use, offline use and large files

The selected OCR model and engine assets must be available before recognition can run. First use of a language needs a connection. Previously used assets may be cached for later offline use, but browser storage can be cleared or evicted. Offline availability is not the same as uploading your document to a server.

Large scans consume working memory when rendered. Reduce the batch if the browser runs out of memory or stops responding. Keep the original and review results before relying on recognized names, financial amounts or legal wording. OCR is a starting point for proofreading, not a replacement for it.
