Compression involves a trade-off

PDF Master Pro compresses a PDF by rendering each page and encoding the result as a JPEG image. This can reduce an image-heavy scan, but it is not lossless optimization. Selectable text, links, forms and annotations can be flattened. There is no fixed reduction percentage that applies to every document, and the smallest file is not always acceptable for its intended use.

If the generated PDF would be larger than the input, the tool returns your original file. That result is useful: it prevents a larger download, but it does not mean the file now satisfies an external upload limit.

Start with the actual submission requirement

Check the receiving service's maximum size, accepted format, page requirements and any minimum resolution. A form portal asking for a readable two-page PDF is a different problem from archiving a signed, searchable report. Keep the original and choose an operation that addresses the stated requirement.

If only three pages from a larger document are required, use Extract Pages first. Removing unnecessary pages can reduce size without recompressing every visible page. Do not remove information the recipient actually requires.

Compare the available quality settings

The tool provides Low, Medium and High options. Start with Medium for a trial and compare it with High when small print or diagrams are important. Low prioritizes a smaller image representation and may degrade fine detail. These labels do not establish a universal print-resolution standard.

  1. Save a trial output with a different filename from the source.
  2. Compare its actual file size with the receiving service's limit.
  3. Open the output in a separate PDF reader.
  4. Inspect the smallest text, punctuation, signatures, table lines and any machine-readable code.
  5. Search or copy a sentence if the recipient needs selectable text.

A fictitious application form containing a small reference AB-1080 illustrates the risk. A compression setting that makes the hyphen or the final zero unclear is unsuitable even when the main heading remains readable. Check the detailed parts, not only the first screenful.

Avoid repeated degradation

Do not repeatedly compress the compressed version in search of another small saving. Return to the best available original and try a different setting. Each raster conversion can further degrade character shapes and image detail. Keep any original digitally signed document unchanged and verify signature validity separately before deciding what to send.

Grayscale PDF is intended to remove color from rendered pages, not to guarantee a smaller file. Resize PDF changes page geometry. Neither should be presented as a substitute for checking the actual upload requirement.

If the output is still too large

Consider whether the source application can export a more suitable PDF, whether unnecessary pages can legitimately be removed, or whether the receiving service accepts separate parts. Browser memory limits also matter: a large page can require much more working memory than its compressed file size suggests. Reduce the batch or close other heavy tabs if processing fails.

Use another optimization workflow when you must preserve text, document structure or interactive features. The correct result is a file that meets the recipient's requirements while preserving the information they need; a download alone does not prove either condition.
